Background
Since I was made aware of the option to certify, I have been carefully considering what senior project would best suit my interests! In my junior year, when we were told to start seriously thinking about a senior project, my friend and Editor-in-Chief, Gabrielle Crain, was working on her senior project. She decided to produce an entire yearbook, by herself, for a nearby elementary school. I took inspiration from this, but I knew I would want to change some things about how she did her project. For example, her project was a solo project, with little-to-no help from her adviser. I knew I would require help on my project, and decided to seek out a yearbook program with an established adviser. My friend, Ainsley Thompson, had told me about her middle school yearbook teacher at Valley View Middle School, and I knew I had found my mentor! The rest is history.
Purpose
The purpose of my senior project is a simple one: to assist Valley View Middle School in the creation of their yearbook. I wanted to give younger students some of my yearbook knowledge, as I had been in yearbook for a majority of my high school years. In addition to this, I was in yearbook design at my middle school, Alfred Nobel Charter Middle School, so I felt that I had a pretty good grasp of how the class worked, how deadlines should be followed, and the many, many other aspects of yearbook.
And, while this wasn’t a main purpose to my senior project, I had also hoped to scope out any students who may have been interested in joining Santa Susana High School’s yearbook program, in hopes to guide them towards Mr. Abbe’s design classes

Hypothesis
My hypothesis for my senior project was that, while I had a lot to teach the middle school students, I would also be learning a lot from them and Mrs. Page-Benghiat. My hypothesis turned out to be right!
I taught lessons on how to take pictures of students, how to write a good caption, and how to work on layout design. I worked closely with Mrs. Page-Benghiat to figure out the logistics of deadlines, how to help the students with their pages, and, when students were doing poorly, what the best course of action would be in fixing their assigned pages.
In addition to teaching students and working with Mrs. Page-Benghiat, I learned a lot from my time with Valley View Middle School’s yearbook class. I was taught how they advertise their sales, sort through student names for captions, and how to not lose my head when the chromebooks would load one pixel at a time.
